coven is a new work by natali abrahamsen garner for trondheim voices. the work explores the potential of music as a space for grief, solidarity and the processing of trauma. through voice, breath and drones, trondheim voices explore how the voice and music can become a space for community and connection, in an attempt to breathe out grief and find strength in togetherness.

the work revolves around the breath and its steady and irregular pulse, dwelling on the weight and strength of the fact that we cannot separate ourselves from our own bodies, our nature and our sense of community. within an open and meditative space, the voices create a community in which we can find rest.

coven is a gathering place that welcomes everyone present. the audience is invited into the sense of solidarity, calm and presence that fills the space. the title refers to a community of women, historically associated with both witches and monastic life. in the work, this becomes an image of the power that can emerge when voices, bodies and presence share the same space.
